We are in a shelter and unfortunately they are locking the door and making everyone stay until tomorrow morning sometime. The storm will be here in a couple hours and be gone by 9:00 pm I think. I’m going to take some drugs in order to sleep and not pace the floor all night.
This antenna is what I am worried about most. Self insured.
They have a radio station here. Nothing hooked up but they have a Kenwood TS-570D, MFJ ALS-600 amplifier some flat dipole looking antenna and several antenna tuners. If I liked talking on a microphone I would see if they would let me hook it al up and get on the Hurricane Net 😀

Hello Andrew, ZF1EJ,
This is Bobby Graves – KB5HAV, Net Manager for the Hurricane Watch Net.
Earlier this year, I sent you an email alerting you that we may be activating for Hurricane Beryl…the first hurricane of this season. Now, Rafael is looking to visit your islands as well, this time as a Category 1 Hurricane.
We will be activating tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, on the following frequencies and times.
- 20 meters: 14.325 MHz (USB) at 2:00 PM EST (1900 UTC) until at least 12:00 AM EST (0500 UTC).
- 40 meters: 7.268 MHz (LSB) 7:00 PM EST (0000 UTC) until at least 12:00 AM EST (0500 UTC).
Other Nets that will be in operation are as follows:
- WX4NHC will be On-The-Air on the Hurricane Watch Net frequency 14.325 MHz most of the time and 7.268 MHz depending on propagation.
- WX4NHC will be on VoIP Hurricane Net (IRLP node 9219 / EchoLink WX-TALK Conference node 7203). http://www.voipwx.net/
WX4NHC will be monitoring WinLink and Online reports. WX4NHC@winlink.org
use //WL2K in email subject
If you are available, we would love to hear from you as well as any surface reports you can provide. Anything you can provide is helpful. We are also able to assist local Emergency Management, EOCs, storm shelters, and more with any Emergency Traffic or outgoing Health and Welfare Traffic.
If you can help me spread the word on the islands that we will be active tomorrow I would be extremely grateful!
Please let me know if you get my email and if you can help. I don’t have much information on ham operators on the islands.
73 & God Bless,
Bobby
