Hi all,

WSJT-related lists have recently seen a lot of discussion about FT8 and SuperFox decoding thresholds.  Some of it has been incorrect or misleading.

I have posted a short document comparing measured sensitivities of SuperFox and FT8 (including multi-streaming) here:

Personally, I've considered the difference between SF and F a lot with the recent DXPeditions.

I "felt" that I needed a stronger SF signal than I did with the standard F, but after deep thought, I came to realize that perhaps the algorithms used to decode the different formats may be the culprit.  And yes, I too have been decoding F/H when I see NOTHING in the waterfall.  Not so with SF/SH as those signals need to be much stronger so I can actually hear the tones before a -15dB is printed.  Regardless of what JT's graph shows, in MY real world experience, there is a major difference between the two formats.

If this is so, the WSJTx team will work that out so the apparent signal decode levels would be comparable between F/H and SF/SH.
