It’s ridiculous to add new ones to the DXCC list where there are known restrictions making it near impossible to activate. As time goes on, there will be more like it. Kure, Midway, and Johnston were one readily available, now near impossible.

I think I remember a prominent ADXA member describing Marti’s previous Jarvis expedition as a “public relations exercise” and Jarvis as definitely not meeting DXCC criteria.

Nick,

I don’t think the effort to make Jarvis a separate Entity has gained much traction. There have been more activations of Palmyra so just guessing it may be easier to get to or there are fewer restrictions by US Fish and Wildlife Service there?  IOTA is probably the only driver to go to Jarvis at this time. Given that Marti,OH2BH, was there in 1990 I’m sure if there was a way to make it a separate entity Marty would have arranged to make it so.

Jarvis can be your own personal “ATNO” Nick….after  all DXCC standings aren’t a competition…just  a personal challenge ….right!

Is Jarvis more difficult to get to (physically and legally) than Palmyra?  If so, what's the attraction?  IOTA?  "Because it's there"?

They're still the same entity, right? An argument is made on the N5J site that it should be a separate entity, but that hasn't happened, right?  If it has happened, I worked an ATNO without knowing it. Not the first time.

Earl, N5ZM, provided a QSL card from the AH3C/KH5J DXpedition to Jarvis Island in 1990.  I’ve added it to the Carousel of QSLs on the Home Page.  That was the last activation of Jarvis Island until the current N5J effort.  Operators on the AH3C/KH5J team included Marti, OH2BH and Wayne Mills, N7NG.  They made 55,000 Qs in approximately a week on the island.   Search  AH3C/KH5J for more information.
