Dennis, I was There watching, at the "County Line "CW Shoot out at High Noon"" (CAREN club hamfest) when you and WA5BDU both successfully copied SIXTY WPM.As my memory serves me. The guy conducting the contest said: "I'm out of cassette tapes. That was the fastest one I had". You & Nick Kennedy shook hands and that was the end of it.The NEXT year They put you in charge of Administering the contest, mostly so you would not be eligible to complete.- QJOn Fri, Jun 7, 2024 at 7:14 AM Dennis Schaefer <dennisw5rz@gmail.com> wrote:We are definitely used to instant gratification. Back in the good old days, I had to walk three miles in the snow to check my mailbox for cards from Box 88 in Russia. Response time to my requests was usually a year or two.The main reason I finally uploaded to QRZ was that a lot of people like their awards or like to see matches there for some other reason. I guess I shouldn’t have been a holdout for so long, since it’s really just a few mouse clicks. Now someone needs to convince me to set up eQSL - or not.Lotw will be back soon enough, and I’ll be again uploading for the “real awards”.I think ARRL is on top of things and cooperating with law enforcement, etc. I’m more worried about my health insurance getting cyber-attacked like one big company did. They have enough problems with just normal operations.I’m still waiting for someone to explain whether that kid can really copy CW at 220 WPM. I suspect Lotw will be back online way before I can reconcile 220 WPM in my mind.Dennis/RZ______________________________________________________________On Fri, Jun 7, 2024 at 5:25 AM <w5znjoel@gmail.com> wrote:______________________________________________________________ADXA Folks,
I loved Steve Martin when he appeared on Saturday Night Live back in the “good days of comedy” with skits like the two “wild and crazy guys” he and Dan Aykroyd would portray. That phrase fits all of the “wild and crazy” rumors I keep hearing about LoTW and that our data and DXCC records are lost and gone forever.
I have no insight into the details of ARRL’s cyber attack but I do read the press releases they continue to publicly send out and on several occasions they have stated your LoTW data and DXCC records are safe and secure. The most recent info that addressed this was in an ARRL member bulletin sent out last night that you should have received if you are an ARRL member……..and YOU must be to be an ADXA member !!!! That bulletin stated, regarding LoTW:
“Many of our services and programs have been impacted by this attack. We have been diligently assessing each system to ascertain the extent of compromise. For example, while the Logbook of The World® server and related user data were unaffected, we have taken the precautionary measure of keeping the service offline until we can ensure the security and integrity of our networks. Similarly, access to Online DXCC is unavailable, although individual award data remains secure.”
I have no expertise in cyber crimes and have to use spell check to make sure I spell it correctly, but I do have quite a bit of experience with ARRL and as a 53 year member (and past President) I can assure you they are addressing the issue and bringing services back on line when it is safe and ready to go. Just please be patient. Yes, I’m going through LoTW withdrawal as well but let’s stand by a bit longer and allow ARRL, the subject matter experts, and law enforcement professionals they are working with continue to work through this.
In the meantime, we ADXA folks have much more important things worry about and do like “GET IN THERE AND WORK ‘EM”. That way, when LoTW is back on line you will have something to upload !!!!
