I remember those two well, but I was mainly trying to mention people who were DX chasers and had some involvement in ADXA.   I remember Al and his HW-12.  He was on SSB a lot.  I don’t remember ever working him on CW but he probably had something besides the Hot Water 12 that would do CW.  Of course, Jimmy has done it all in his distinguished ham career so far.

And Nick Kennedy, WA5BDU, was a regular on OZK and the CW bands and is an ADXA member who is in there chasing ‘em on CW.   WA5IED is now K5XH - I keep recalling ones I omitted.  It is surprising how many current ADXA members are ones I used to ragchew with on 80 and 75 meters back in the 60’s and 70’s.

I do not normally jump in on these.... but there were a couple other teenagers that ran around together.   Jimmy Poole, WA5UMP (WU5X) that checked into the Teenage Net.   Al Simpson, WA5TJB, was a regular on the Arkansas Post Office Net, he never did get off 75 M with his Heath HW-12.

Those were the good ole days for sure.

I could tell a lot of stories about K5UR, but one of my favorites was watching him work DX operating split with his SB-101.  He would hollar, "Transceive" at the end of his transmission and start spinning the VFO to get down to their TX Frequency.

Dennis, thanks for the memories.

I knew I’d neglect  some - Don, K5DB, i think was WA5ZKE back in the day and John, WB5BHS was around.   Andy Henry, WA5TIY (K5XT) rounded out the group of young hams who frequented the Teenage Net and got on the air with the other groups.  I suspect even WA5VDH (K5UR) occasionally showed up to ragchew on 75 or 80.

Dick Freeling W5TIZ, was one of the first ADXA members, maybe a charter member.  Dickie was quite a character, and we enjoyed him.  He lost his sight in the war but had a distinguished career in finance.   As a new General, I talked daily to the group on 3.948 LSB.  Although i was just a kid, those men put up with me. I remember some of the “special” colorful language used by the group, but particularly by Dick.

Boomi! this was a substitute for bull**** because the FCC would have frowned on that back then.

Siphogging. Used as in “he was just siphogging along”. (whatever that means)

Jabooner. A big signal.

I think there were others, but that’s all I can remember.

Jim Crowley, W5IRG, and Sid, WA5AUZ,  were also ADXA active members and were on the group daily. I also had some long CW rag news with Jim and Sid down on 3.790 CW. There were other ADXA stalwarts.

I talked to Bill Priakos, W5KGJ, now W5SJ, on 75 a lot also, but I think that was usually on the Razorback Net Frequency. Randy, K5BOC, was also a regular on the net frequency along with others like WB5IGF (W5ZN) and K5QHS (K5YY). There was usually a large group there before and after the nets. I think it’s interesting that all of these regular ragchew contacts on SSB were red hot CW operators. I also ragchewed with WA5KUD (W5KI) and WA5KAK (W5VY), mostly down in the 80M CW band. I know I have left some out - if you were there, speak up.

Just something I was thinking about today…..I guess caused by remembering Dick’s conversation with the FCC about the banned countries.
