Joel:
Thank you for the more detailed information on what has gone on at the international WRC and your complicated daily attentions within the ITU discussions. Your efforts are appreciated. Welcome home soon and please get a good night’s sleep before chasing some DX that you don’t really need! LOL
Oh, you did miss Dom in North Korea who made 25K QSOs, all FT8 and in just one day there. Hmmm Could have been a pirate or two. I will stick to the old DSB and AM modes for now.👍

Hi Stan,
HA!!! Well “Conference” is a bit of a misnomer. It’s not a typical conference format as you don’t have “speakers” except for day 1 in the opening plenary session. After that, the many agenda items dealing with literally hundreds of spectrum allocation matters across all radio services from DC to light is divided up into several “Sub-Working Groups” that hash things out, sends them up to a “Working Group” that does the same then eventually up to a main committee and then to the final plenary for formal conference approval. Each of these have a “Chair” that orchestrates the work within that specific group.
There are 193 sovereign countries who are members of the ITU that debate and vote on these matters so you can see it doesn’t happen overnight, especially when you’re dealing with six different languages! A four week WRC has been typical in modern times. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the Secretary-General of the ITU, noted last week that she believed if we reduced the allotted of time for the WRC’s folks would get their work completed earlier!!
IARU has had representatives here from around the world since the beginning November 20. IARU President Tim Ellam and I tag-teamed our attendance and split up our time here. He arrived at the start and left about 10 days ago after I arrived. IARU Vice President LA2RR is the IARU team lead for this WRC and has been here the entire time along with 10 other hams who are part of the IARU team as well as a member of their country’s delegation. Jon Silverling, WB3ERA, is ARRL’s team member and also serves as a member of the US delegation.
So, very very early Sunday morning Dubai time (1:30 AM) I expect to be on a flight to Paris, connecting with my flight back to the USA.
OK you ADXA DX Hogs ATTENTION!!! I’ll be back home Sunday night suffering from severe starvation from lack of on-the-air DX so protect your receivers and WATCH OUT !!!!

Joel,
I had never heard of of any kind of conference that lasted 25 days. Wow. Hopefully you didn’t have to dress up and go to boring talks all day, every day. Safe travels.

While not a direct impact to HF DX’ing, it is important to note amateur radio’s strong defense of our frequency allocations on a global basis from commercial interest attempts to weaken our positions. ARRL is THE major supporter and leader of these efforts through its direct financial support of IARU’s work and also the work performed by ARRL’s technical and administrative staff. This is but one important reason your ARRL members matters!
