Congratulations on the callsign, Dennis!  It’s not often a callsign like that becomes available.  It is simply amazing what you have accomplished in a very short period of time in amateur radio.

I  looked at the log for ZF2VE who is operating the 160 Contest via remote from here to see if W5DM was in the database but you had already worked him.  I wouldn’t know without starting a new log, but you are probably correct.  (I  think I made a good decision to not work this contest.  Sounds like conditions are not very good).

There are about 200,000 callsigns in that database and when working a contest it is probably a good idea to at least pause to think about whether you are absolutely positive before logging someone who isn’t in there.  I think in the CQ WW CW Contest I probably didn’t log more than 1 in 1000 that were not in that massive database.

Looking forward to working you in the 10m Contest next weekend.  My suggestion is to work it CW only (unless you go to work a new one one on SSB) and call CQ at whatever speed you are able knowing that when it is over you will have made huge progress with CW.  Confident that at some point in time you are going to find CW is one of your favorite modes!

By the way, my reference to computers was in regard to hams not wanting to log a call sign, or questioning a call sign, unless it appears in the “check log” window !!

While I love the incorporation of computers into contest logging I feel sometimes hams rely too much on them and should just log what is sent rather than relying on what the computer is telling them!!!

GL in the test, OM. I was looking forward to the 160 meter contest this year since I have been unable to participate for several years until we finally moved our annual ADXA meeting off that weekend. However, this year the WRC23 schedule fell right on top of it so I must miss it once again. In fact, I’ll miss the 10 meter contest next weekend as well.

Would be nice to operate from A6 but the Emirates Amateur Radio Society’s club station is about an hour drive outside Dubai and the WRC meetings are scheduled such that it isn’t possible. :-(

Momentary Shock successful...It's funny I've been working a few stations on the 160m contest to try and boost my state count and I guess I'm not the check-log because over half have asked me to verify W5DM...

Oh by the way , Dennis, you do know that since you have a new callsign you must start over at zero with your DXCC totals, don’t you???

Just kidding but I couldn’t resist giving you a momentary shock!!!
