Ken and Red were some of the Crawford County area teens who hung out in my grandfather’s ham shack when, as Red used to say, I was running around diapers. They have more stories on our family than I can remember!

My grandfather was K5VRC, thus the reason for my K5VR callsign I picked up in ‘77. Now my son has the ‘VRC callsign but is busy as a dad of three and just earned his private pilot’s license. Maybe some day the DX bug will bite him.

Stan, K5VR

P.S. I’ll try to update my totals with ARRL before the annual meeting. No ATNO’s (P5 and FR/G have been missing for a very long time!

I managed to mangle Ken, K5ALQ’s call in his Standings update I sent earlier today..  K5ALU was Roger “Red” Cranford (SK).  Red was a friend from way back  and member of the Old Fharts Field Day Crew.  I’m not sure how my mind comingled the calls….probably age related!

My apologies Ken.
