Yes, they are getting louder.  And he is getting SERIOUS.  We need to have a chat with Dennis and tell him to BACK OFF to protect our lead for the Russellville community.

Seriously, I wish him all the luck and bump at least me off the leaderboard for a while to get me motivated more.  While Charles, John and I do compete amongst ourselves, Dennis and others are giving us a run for our money.  They just need to watch out for the dust and smoke that follows us down an old Pope County road.

Of course Dennis can beat us at any time with his CW skills (that I definitely never had).  Most times, that makes the biggest difference.  I love SSB, but I'm also lazy and like to sit in my recliner and work the digital modes remote from the shack while doing other things.  I do have the 7300 at my feet there and get it on SSB, especially 40m from time to time.  It's on a 40m EFHW so directivity is limited.  I have run an RTTY contest on it in the past and it worked well.

Competition makes us all better -- or so they say.  Whoever this "they" is.  Bring it on.  I'm the oldest one in the group here, so my times are more limited than theirs.

Subject: [ADXA] HK3 on 17 meters!

OK, nothing to get excited about, but I have come up with a solution to my BIC (Butt in Chair) problem and it might be working.  I decided that I was going to work at least ONE new band counter every day, no matter what.  I started this on Sept 19.  So far, I've worked 38 potential new band counters.  Some were duplicates, but at the time I worked them, they were not verified.  DXpeditions help some, but today, I was busy and the expeditions didn't seem to be on bands where I needed them.   This evening, I worked an HK3 on 17 meters for a potential new one.

This will get harder as I get the more common  and active ones out of the way, but with barely over 1200 Challenge points, there are plenty of new ones out there.

I picked up another Kenwood TS-590S that had been used by an unlicensed operator in town.  I worked 5X3K on the first call on 10 and 12 meter SSB without turning on the amp.  Must be some kind of CB magic audio modification.  I seem to sound OK, though.

I've listened for 5X3K on 40M CW several times but he is too weak.  I'm not sure why, I normally hear that area fine on 40.  For Challenge points, I worked them on a different mode.

Dennis/RZ
