Well stated Dennis. Thank you!! 😉
I wish there was a way that the “spotting networks” like DX Summit could match the IP addresses with known people who sign on with a legit callsign initially. Then if someone puts down a fake, foolish callsign or a stupid word spotter and then makes a stupid statement, the website administrator would know it was a specific callsign doing the harassment. It is a shame we have gotten down to dealing with things now that we did not have to do years ago before computers got involved in about 1998-2000.
Today’s bad happenings with rare entities like a 3Y0 or FT8 Crozet and others in the top 10 or even those semi-rare ones in the top 40 or so, are causing such adverse feelings about chasing DX so intensely today; not having the good feelings we had years ago when we worked a new one by tuning our VFO knob around or being notified by a ham friend of a rare DX station by getting a phone call etc. Times are changing for sure… using software for the FT modes today is great for weak -3 to -20 dB signals where SSB and CW can not be heard, and a DXer can work an ATNO via the new FT modes we have. I am all for the newer modes helping some new hams in their DX chasing and getting involved as we were in the 1950s-early 2000s.
Times a changin’ as they say .. I have well over 300 DXCC on my RTTY interests that started in 2011. But, I have not applied for RTTY DXCC via the ARRL and just do not need any more certificates in the attic boxes or on my ham room walls. I just collect paper QSL cards for the inner feelings I have of proving my DX chasing was successful over many years. Never have had to do LoTW..
Appreciate your comment here on the ADXA site, Dennis. Now back to checking for 3Y0J one more time on 30m before bedtime at 9PM..😊👍 At the price they are asking, I doubt I will ask for a QSL card unless maybe if I work them on BOTH 30m and 15m on any mode. Just going to a shoe box anyway. 😄
73 and CU at next month’s ADXA quarterly meeting perhaps!

San,
I think most of the people calling the 3Y aren't hearing him, and in fact, many times they are calling because they saw a spot. There have been jammers on CW and SSB for decades, but with FT8, you can change a few things in your settings and call CQ and pretend you're anyone you want to be. You can't get away with it for too long, but I think what has happened is that a pirate will put out a call, get spotted, and then not work anyone. In the meantime, people call and call, on both sequences, even though they haven't copied anything. Or - someone just puts out a bogus spot and people start calling.
Someone suggested that it is time for authentication on the spotting networks, and there is something to that. I'd say 9 out of 10 spots on DX Summit are bogus. Many of them have no callsign, they have just made up something, and they throw out a frequency just so they can make their snide comment.

I have never seen such a mix-up of information being given by a multitude of DXers on the FT8 mode system used by 3Y0J and how confused the DXers are on how to call, what sequence, what form of FT8, where and when to call etc.. And then some think they worked the 3Y0 and whether or not a “RRR” is needed, etc. A failure to ‘be clear’ on things before calling even starts… that means the DXers calling and the 3Y0 team knowledge of what’s going on too. Sad ..
When old timers on the silent modes of FT4/FT8 etc are confused on how 3Y0J is to be called and confirmed, then I KNOW the young newcomers to the FT modes are REALLY confused. Right Jay and Earl?? 😊 I have no software to get on FT modes and would not have enough mentality on keeping up with it during situations like with the 3Y0C! HI
73 all and have a great weekend! Guess the FT8WW will be on a couple of upper bands. No more 30m from what I hear.. IIWII
