Pat:
I never had to audition except read a page or 2 when applying for the WQXI-AM in Atlanta when I was at Ga. Tech and after football season, since I was playing on the Freshman football team during the fall and winter months..
The initial job I had as part-time in Stuttgart, again no interview talk since my close friend Scooter Segraves, the #1 announcer later in Tulsa for 30 years. He was in Stuttgart from about 56 to 61 and heard my sorta low voice and liked it.
For free I worked some Saturdays in DeWitt, AR at KDEW which was owned by Ed Morry W5BDR, a close ham friend like Ross Beard W5FUW in Stuttgart, and I did this on my Saturdays off from my medical practice job at the Stuttgart Medical Clinic in 1970-71. I have announced many football games in Paris and Springdale in the past, the station and school administrators, knowing my broadcasting history.
Chicago’s WLS, great days with some stories I can tell you about the WLS main owner and Scooter, who is about 83 years old and lives in Diamond City, AR, near the Missouri border. He also was a radio announcer in Memphis and in southern Louisiana before going to Tulsa.
We can talk about those true old days perhaps at the next Q meeting of ADXA..

Thanks for sharing George. Happy Birthday and Wedding Anniversary to both of you.
Nice to have a smooth talking celebrity in our ranks. Still have any of your audition tapes San??
My favorite DJ from the early 60’s was Dick Biondi (spelling?) on WLS, 890AM, Chicago. He eventually got fired for inappropriate comments related to miniskirts.
