I had a huge (really huge) salvaged SW radio from a Navy Minesweeper in my bedroom. Wire antenna and inside were 40 or 50 "peanut tubes" that were WIRED onto terminal strips. I also listened to Dick Bondi on WLS for many years on that radio and others. Also so many QSO's before I got my license. The BFO was a bit unstable to say the least. If you listen around on AM broadcast today, either the receivers we have today or sorry or the stations just don't propagate as well as in the 60's. Even with my outside wires today and a 7300 or 7610, they just don't "hear" as well as a 5 transistor, 9v radio did back in the day. And our car AM radios, might as well not even be there.73'sGeorge - WB5JJJ

Nice to have a smooth talking celebrity in our ranks. Still have any of your audition tapes San??
My favorite DJ from the early 60’s was Dick Biondi (spelling?) on WLS, 890AM, Chicago. He eventually got fired for inappropriate comments related to miniskirts.
