Ira is a nice guy.  Wish I could have caught him yesterday when all of you worked him.  In the 80’s and 90’s, I went to Anguilla 8 times – VP2EJ.  Got to know a bunch of the guys there, including Ira. N5AU, Gordon, had a superstation there, VP2E but unfortunately, I never got to operate a contest there.  I did participate in the CQ WW Top Band contest once on my own, however.  WOW!  Such fun being closer to the equator and hearing 20 over 160 meter signals out of EU.  Inverted V with one beverage for EU and 500w was all I had.  Good memories.  Anguilla is aptly named – the word means eel in Italian.  It is flat and arid but has 33 of the greatest beaches in the world.

Kathy and I continue to threaten to go back for a visit.  Last time to VP2E land was just after we had gotten engaged in 2004.  Worked mostly on 6 meters that trip – lots of SA contacts including good friend, Rolf, PY1RO, a six meter Big Gun (SK).

Lanny I listened to him for a while.  I think lived here in the mainland for a while.  Also I seem to remember him saying he was in the arm service of some sort.  I was amazed at how strong he was at times!  Even more, at his friendliness!

Hi Lanny,

He sure enjoyed working Miss Kathy AKA Sally, which confuses folks. He sure is a nice guy and once he knew I was in the shack he told Kathy to put me on the mic. It was fun rag-chewjng with him and Kathy enjoyed the invite to Anguilla.

I am not sure of his rig or power, but he does a dandy job with his off center fed dipole.

Even more fun when he said it's nice to hear a person's voice after working them so many times on digital so much, LOL.
