Snooky:

I have to take exception to N0UN’s stand on FT8.  I enjoy rag chews as much as anyone and breaking pileups barefoot for 63 years, but I really feel that FT8 saved HF ham radio before the upswing of Cycle 25.  Separately, I think that SOTA/POTA is exceptionally good for the hobby today.

We had our ADXA Annual Meeting/Conference at La Quinta in Russellville, AR today and had some excellent presentations.  The last was on FT8 and I picked up a few pointers.  It takes a lot of finesse to make the gains even I have made in the DeSoto Challenge: admittedly nearly all FT8 with ever increasing SSB today.  I won the DX Hog Award (Razorback) today (and an ARRL Antenna Book, too); I’ve shared my DX exuberance with posts to the club members and cc: to you.

Hello ARS KA1DE Snooky,

We have published a new article on N0UN.net. FT8

FT8. Over a year and half ago I wrote this post: FT8 Is Destroying Ham Radio.

With the results in from the recent DXpedition to Banaba (T33T), I'd say we're well on the way to having a major part of Ham Radio and DXing become nothing more than lazy, mindless computer ...
