Yesterday afternoon I was listening for TY0RU and worked them on 20M SSB.

I saw them spotted on 40M FT8 (Europe spotter I believe) so I went down and took a look.  They were printing with pretty weak signals and CQing over and over.   No other stations  were printing.  It was 5:15pm here and about 1 1/2 hours before sunset.  

I figured he was running power.  I didn’t have anything else to do and it was a wild shot so I started calling him (no amp here).  After 15-20 calls, he responded.  I sent him a response and then he disappeared.  He showed up again later (about 45 minutes before sunset) with the same scenario (CQing and no other stations on the band).   I called him again several times and he came back to me again.  I responded but never got an RR73.  I cataloged it as “nice try” and “thanks for playing” but no prize.

This morning I checked the website and both contacts showed up!  

And yes, after the surprise on 40, I did go look at 80 (just in case). :)
