Power Amp techies will enjoy the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE, predecessor to the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, IEEE) paper concerning the design and operation of the 500kW transmitter at WLW. The power required to just light the filaments in the RF section and Modulator was 33V # 4,150A….nearly 137kW!
