______________________________________________________________Hi ADXA,
So today I got up a little earlier and was nicely rewarded to get 9N7AA on 30m. A new band for me. He even provided LOTW confirmation! Nice!! Confirmed on 4 bands now, but now needing CW to get that mode filled.
Anyway he had a great signal on 30m. He complains about his noise floor being super high and explains how best to work him. He does have a definite pattern to his operation, every day the same thing starting on 30m around 1200 UTC. Then drops to 17m about an hour later. So on and so forth.
BTW, I find all this long path vs. short path interesting! Especially when it changes the other way for some just over a few hundred miles to the east of here. As you guys may or may not know I don’t have a directional antenna on 30m or even a good dipole/vertical that is resonate on that band. So this morning I just loaded into the 80m/40m fan dipole. I know this is a dumb thing to do, but when I saw/heard him I wanted that QSO. Even a squirrel get a nut from time to time, but my luck ran out as I was waiting on him on 12m to show up. Sure enough he was there at the right time and was even louder than on 30m. I wasn’t the only one waiting on him. He only worked a few stations and was gone. During that whole time I did try again short path on 12m on the beam and again it was all long path for him. I just couldn’t believe I couldn’t get him and I did try all the tricks I knew to do. So I was left to experiment on LP vs. SP to entertain me.
I wonder if this is a equinox thing where long path can sometimes work more? I have never worked as much LP as I have in the last few days.
Sure has been a nice couple of days of DXing. I love seeing those LOTW confirmations come across my DXLab sync. Now if I could only find just “one” ATNO! 😊
