Yes, Lanny & San, I figured some of the old original 'K' calls would have me beat by a few years. There were still KN5 stations on the air when I passed my novice so I thought I might get a K call.

I'm thinking K5FUV is original too and so probably goes back into that period of pre-history.

Stan, congrats on the 5BDXCC.  I can't even imagine going after it.

Steve - maybe you mailed your license to the FCC.  At the time, it was required and as you can see, they returned my stamped "CANCELED" with the new WA5 license in the envelope.

I did a web search on WN5KUD and came up with a hit which was a contest report on the Novice Roundup.  Look at the article and you see two Arkansas entrants: WN5KAK and WN5KUD. We were well represented.

Pat - on the rental house - I had a box of QSLs out in the "wash house", which my brother and I burned down after our dad told us to burn the trash.  (Turns out that didn't include the wash house.)  Fortunately, I'd already moved my rig back into the house and some impromptu volunteers kept it from catching fire too.

OK, I hear something on 14.037 ...

I don’t want to steal any of Nick’s thunder, but I got my Novice in June 1959 and General a year later.  I retired to Searcy almost three years and we still have Mayflower cartons that haven’t been unpacked including certificates, that license framed, logs before 1992, etc.  My DXCC QSL album with 313 countries in it and the S-40B travelled in the car with me.  The KN1LEC ticket arrived just before two weeks of CAP encampment at Grenier Field, now Manchester (NH) Airport where I celebrated my 15th birthday, so my two ARC-5’s had to wait for key down!  Coincidentally, I celebrated my 22nd birthday seven years later doing KP at Amarillo AFB: a month after college (UVM) graduation.

Congratulations on 60+ years Nick. You really are an OT! Anyone in ADXA licensed longer than Nick?

I got my Novice in May, 1964.  I recall you telling me once that you found me in one of your early paper logs…WN5KAK/WA5KAK?  Like Steve, W5KI, I lost my original Novice and General license.  My “shack” was in a rental house my Mom and Dad owned and they sold it while I was in the Navy.  My dad (WN5TXC-SK)  retrieved my radio gear and took down all the wire antennas but by the time he thought of my logs, QSL’s etc, they were mostly gone  (not to mention my stash of Playboy mags!). My earliest log is a WA5KAK log that starts in Aug, ’66.  Also lost my original 1st Phone license from ’72.

Enjoy your day Nick!

Hey, I just realized over breakfast that this is an important date. I became a ham 60 years ago.  If you don't believe me, ask C.B. Plummer or Ben F. Waple.

So, maybe time for a brief QSO in between naps.
