Excellent, hard work but the main thing is that you enjoyed it. That’s what any hobby should be!
Thanks for the detailed, interesting reading of something most have not considered or even knew about to this extent. Congrats!

Joel,
Thanks for the kind words. Microwave contesting is a sort of symbiotic relationship. There are four North Texas Microwave Society fixed stations North of DFW, Al, W5LUA; Greg, AA5C; Scott, AA5AM; and Wes, WA5TKU. Several of those stations have 10GHz through 76GHz tower mounted gear. I worked all of them from most of my stops. They would have a short contest working each other once without Rovers. So, we help each other. I was one of the Rovers and started from Rich Mountain in the fog on the Saturday of the 2nd weekend. I visited 8 sites in AR, OK and TX with my tripod 10G rig. Got to spend a night in Paris……TX! Brad, WQ5S, was another Rover and we managed to work a few times without any real plan to position to do it. My best DX was with Brad....about 350km (217mi). I was on a little rise west of Hugo, OK running 3 watts to a 2ft prime focus dish (33dbi gain…over 2Kw ERP) and Brad was near Albany, TX (NE of Abilene) running about 3 watts to a 18” offset DSS dish. It was a couple hours after sunrise and it took us a few minutes to complete on CW. There was really slow QSB that would take Brad from S1 to nothing. I use a IC705 IF rig and had every tool engaged…about 150Hz filter, audio peaking, NB, etc. It was a lot of fun and turned out to be the best DX between any NTMS stations…two rovers. Brad operated in the 10/24GHz category and did a great job. He was out on the first weekend in August and fought the really hot weather. The September weekend was very pleasant. This was my third year to participate in the contest. I hope to be a 10/24GHz Rover in 2022.
It’s not traditional DXing but the feeling of accomplishment is there. Also, it’s RADIO and….. it’s FUN.

Pat

In the February QST (Yes I received it a week ago but I pay extra to have it sent First Class mail in an envelope) on page 76 are the results of the 2021 ARRL 10 GHz and Up Contest. ADXA VP Pat, W5VY is the top dog W5!!! (no, he wasn't the only W5 entry!). He beat out some of the North Texas Microwave Society boys that take this contest seriously.
Yes, that is DX !!!!
CONGRATULATIONS Pat !
