If they use tags, they will likely be tacked to the poles with owner ship name and significant digit serial number. If not, use GPS location and address that can be from a phone but only if you have positive identification of noise causing you a problem. Many power providers do not have anyone skilled with finding nor fixing RFI unless someone helps them find, identify, and have a knowledge of how to repair it. You could just get a visit from a maintenance service man that doesn’t mind helping you, but just honestly doesn’t know what or who you are talking across the border somewhere. A friendly “suggestion” might get things fixed if you help out and remain patient. Legal threats is a sure way to slow down the process of getting things fixed if it’s a small Co-Op or municipality that doesn’t understand your issue.

In a nice way, I educated MLGW on how to discover noise.  They had just received a large fine from the FCC due to their freight drivers operating on 10 meters with high-power radios.

After that, they staffed up the RFI shop with three people, one a former Motorola tech.  I’m probably one of five active hams in Memphis on HF.  They jump to it when we call.

In a nice, polite way during your discussions with your local utility provider you can mention you operate a federally license radio station that is experiencing power line interference. They are required by law to resolve this issue although sometimes the responsiveness from utilities is less than desirable. It took me about a year to get things rolling here but I now have a good rapport with the responsible engineer.



The important thing is they understand you are not just a CB’er or someone randomly operating some radio station that is not licensed, but rather you are operating a federally licensed radio station under 47 CFR Part 97. Again I emphasize dong so in a “nice” manner!

Well, here we don't have ANY numbers on these poles. As I said earlier they don't have tracking system for reported problems, they don't know about RFI. I wonder what I find next. These should be rather basic things for any power company to have. At least they seem friendly and somewhat responsive. So, I guess it could be worse.
