Thanks Chuck.

This is my favorite contest and conditions were awful this year but anytime I can finish #19 world, #8 North America, and #6 USA from Arkansas, right behind some very big east coast stations, I’m happy! The number of EU & UA stans worked were way down and I only logged one JA.

I’ve had the privilege of operating in this 160-meter contest with the W2GD crew at their amazing station on the south Jersey shore where EU stations sound like locals and also at the N2CEI (K0DI) station in north Florida where they hear things we simply do not in Arkansas. My most exciting opportunity was being the 160-meter op for the ZF5T multi-op in the CQWW CW last year (thanks Stan!!!!). That is a really, really great location to run 160 meters (and other bands as well !!!!).

I literally spend the entire year (over the past 25 years) working on 160-meter RX antenna improvements. That includes a whole lot of study and research over the summer months then seeing the result during the winter 160-meter season. I’ve pretty much maxed out what can be achieved with antennas for now and work on being a better operator, but there are always little tweaks to make in the overall station. The one thing I have learned is that every geographical location is different, much different, when it comes to effective RX antennas. The exact same antenna will NOT produce the exact same results somewhere else! Folks get very hung up on that and don’t take the time to learn and educate themselves about RX antennas and just simply believe they can buy, or throw up, any RX antenna that works great somewhere else and then get disappointed when it doesn’t produce the same result.

Thanks to all the ADXA folks who jumped in and gave me a Q.

Big congrats to ADXA members K5GO @ ZF5T & W5ZN for outstanding results in this contest which apparently had below average conditions.
