I’ve been occupied by having a bathroom remodeled, but have ben reading
about all the accomplishments. Congratulations to Dawn, Roger, Ryan, and
Steve on running their good records even higher. Congratulations to the
BVRC for favorable mention in QST. I am proud to be a member of that club,
and the level of activity and commitment is amazing.
So on the other subject…. I have two 811A amps and they are fine, will
output 400-500 watts. I see the shiny new things and think about them but
usually talk myself down. I promised myself that if I got a good report
from my doctor at CARTI, I would at least look. That was today, and I seem
to be good to go, so I’m wondering if anyone has any comments pro or con on
any of these.
1. SPE Expert amps. Sold by MTC. I like Richard and they have always
treated me well but I wonder about service.
2. Elecraft KPA-1500. Support would be good, otherwise I don’t know much
about this amp.
3. OM power 2000A or the new 1700A (which doesn’t seem to be available in
the US now. These look like good tube amps
4. Power Genius - they are impressive and seem to support two rigs, which
would be nice. They seem to be oriented to Flex, and I’m keeping my
Kenwoods.
5. Mercury. They seem good, a little less expensive.
6. Acom. So far, the 1200 watt solid state model may be my favorite, at
least on paper. They have a good track record and a variety of models.
7. Others???
Solid state or tube? Tunable, or fully automatic? Real QRO and have to
redo my antenna switching, etc.? Lots of decisions. 1000-1200W, solid
state, fully automatic sounds pretty good, and I don’t think I would blow
anything up at that power level.
I mainly need to get my butt back in the chair!
73,
Dennis/RZ
