[ADXA] Switching PS / wall warts

Those darn things are notorious for generating noise!! I don’t have any inside the shack. If an odd voltage other than 12 Vdc is needed I build a regulator so I don’t have to use a “wart”.

 

Of course, there are plenty of other “warts” I can’t control, like cell phone chargers and notebook computer chargers. I’ll bet most of us have some of those plugged in when not in use. They don’t have to be plugged into a device to generate noise, just the wart plugged in will fire it up even if no current is flowing to the intended device.

Hi, 

Had one of those heurka moments today. Suddenly I have had terrible hash on 160/80 which I did not pay attention to earlier because of the tower project. So, spent some time today locating the issue. Turned off the main switch from the panel and had the radio on battery power. Sure enough, the noise was gone. Then started switching things back on one by one. And sure enough, the wall wart that was added just before the tower work was the one producing the RFI. So, before starting to use anything, one needs to check carefully that the PS is CLEAN.... I felt like those donkeys ears growing in my head...
