Appreciate the stories! Thank you for your service!
I was in the Coast Guard as a Radio Man and went to Antarctica aboard the USCGC GLACIER during our tour (DEEP FREEZE 66-67) I was K1QDV/
MM and operated KC4USG. We had a bad static storm and lost communications for a week! My chief asked me to
try the ham bands to relay our status to Long Beach, Ca. 
The noise was really bad, but I relayed our position to the Coast Guard in Long  Beach via a Ham operator in California. The Captain was really impressed!

I really enjoyed the ADXA conference!
