I can't say enough times, how much I enjoyed the meeting yesterday. It was a privilege to be around such an amazing bunch of people who are so kind and willing to share their knowledge to promote this wonderful hobby.
To Joel who has done an amazing job leading ADXA, I give a salute today. My first encounter with him was during the January VHF contest a few years ago. I made a few contacts and when the band "went out", I got to sit and watch what I still call "The Joel Show". as he worked station after station on what I had determined to be a closed band. I later emailed him about VHF contesting and he quickly replied to me, a complete stranger and willingly gave me "privileged information" that would help me in later contests. On my Facebook page I posted about "The Joel Show" and a fisherman friend of mine read that post. A few months later I saw Michael Person at a fishing show and hes asked me "have you talked to Joel lately?". My reply to him was "Joel who". My mind was thinking fishing, I didn't know any Joel's that fished. Micheal then told the back story, and the world became just a little bit smaller as the story unfolded.
Yes, I hold Joel in high esteem as do many, many people all around the world. I wish him the best and have been blessed by being a reipeint of his kindness...except in a pile up where his kindness is not found.
I do have one remaining hypothetical question. When W5ZN at home works ZF2ZN via remote, If the report us only a 55, would he give himself a 59?
I did get to speak with Debbie the current recipient of the "DX Hawg" award. Charles was also there and it has been rumored, that a female voice adds about 10db to the signal. That, along with a very robust amp and antenna system leads to a formidable signal in a pile up. I struggle with the amp and antenna situation, but for and additional 10db, I may could try making my voice sound more like a ladies voice. Besides, I'm getting tired of the DX saying "hilbilly ending in ZJ" come now That was how I figured out I had a perfect voice for CW.
Yes, it was a great day yesterday meeting friends old and new, and marveling at the things people have done and are doing. People are so amazing. Ordinary looking people can, and have done the most extraordinary things, and in the group of people that met yesterday the chance of meeting a "mild mannered" person who was actually a superman...or woman was multiplied many times.
Too many things to mention like the W5DM cutting board that was amazing, or the comments in EJ's presentation that I think will help me very soon in my endeavor to work 160, or lunch with Stan who should have been a brother...and turned out to be, or getting to sit beside my long time friend Bruce, who I hadn't seen in years, or Pat handing me a couple books he knew I would enjoy, or Chuck sending an email offering another project that would help me on 160. WOW, I get overwhelmed just thinking about it.
Well there it is, you have my opinion such as it is.
Will I make another meeing? You'll just need to read between the lines
Thanks to all!!!
Randy/W5ZJ
