The concrete for my project came in by a concrete truck. It would have been too much to make it from bags. 
 
I used quickrete to mount a wooden pole next to the base. Quickrete will suck water out of ground and air, so I just dumped quickrete into the hole. Perhaps just a tiny bit of water over it. I never mix it before pouring.

 Phase 2: complete!  62 bags of 80# quikcrete and 2 hours and 18 minutes later... we have a planted tower base! I'm definitely feeling it today, but not unbearable.   Jussi, what did you water yours with, and do you have any more left over?  :)
