Subject: [ADXA] Asleep at the Wheel - A ZS8 Follow Up Story

Greetings again ADXA Folks,

On April 30 I worked ZS8W on 20-meter CW at 1155z and posted a spot here on our reflector. He was only there for a short time and QSY’ed or QRT’ed. I wasn’t sure it was the real ZS8W and didn’t care much because I did not need ZS8 on 20 meters. When his log updated, I was in there on 20 CW so it was the real ZS8W. I smiled but still didn’t get excited – I did not need ZS8 on 20 meters and had worked him on FT8 on a couple of bands I did need.

I am sitting at 338 (current DXCC) on CW. A few days later I started thinking about my CW total and almost passed out running to grab my “Need List” and darn if ZS8 was the only one, other than P5, I need on CW! I was completely asleep at the wheel and would have been deathly devastated if Yuris had packed up and left without me working him on CW!!

So my DXCC total for current entities on CW now stands at 339 and waiting for little rocket man to blow up on the launch pad so P5 will open up some day.

The moral of this story is PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR NEED LIST regardless of what you “think” you do, or do not, need!!!!

73 Joel W5ZN
