I worked him on 80 and 40 with wire antennas and about 1kW. I don't want to push to full power since those antennas are hanging from trees and tree branches etc. are close by. My 80m antenna is (very) low lying inverted V (80 radials) and 40 is a full wave loop (vertical polarization) with the lowest side about 8' from the ground.

20-10 has been more difficult but being persistent pays off. Also remember that he can receive above 2800 Hz (up to 3000 Hz). Some radios only do 2800 (USB) and often people stay below that when calling. Still need 17 and 12. I have a wire beam for these bands (5 band spiderbeam). So, wires do work just like aluminum :-)

Now 160 and 6 would need some sort of miracle...
