He could have done a lot better job on usage of different bands/modes. His poor use of propagation times to NA compounded the problem.

 For my $0.02,
If I remember correctly Yuris was down there on a work related trip, being paid and his travel was most likely fully reimbursed. He took minimum equipment so he was not out much on shipping or logistical costs.  He worked mostly EU or JA and was not working N.A. as well or as frequently. I’ve had this one for years on several bands and only needed it on 10 and 12m and he wasn’t working N.A. when I, the working stiff, was able to get on.  No sour grapes here folks, but this WAS NOT a major DXpedition to a difficult location with huge logistical costs. ZS8 will be on again in the future.
I say NO on this one.
Let’s save our club funds for a major expedition to a super rare one that really does require substantial investments of time and capital.

A couple of years ago, N5QS had an excellent suggestion. Have the DXpeditions that ADXA financially supports provide free OQRS/LoTW for our members. I really liked that but have no clue how to manage that and make it work.

I'm in a bit of a quandary about funding some DXPs.

1.  The DXPs already charge for OQRS which many ADXA folks will gladly pay to get the LoTW, especially if it's an ATNO for some (like me).  I even saw one DXP that was charging $20 for immediate LoTW after DXP was completed, $10 for a month or so delay, and $5 for sometime before the free upload about 6-12 months later.  Plus, Yuris is still waiting on approval from ARRL for the DXCC status.  I'm sure it will come soon.

2.  Multiply #1 by a worldwide base, and the income could be huge.  Much more than $100 from ADXA, but every dollar helps defray planning time and expenses.

3.  If it's some DXP that I already have a LoTW confirmation or two, I typically just wait for the 6 months to pass and hope they don't go SK and logs are lost.

Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware of the cost to do even the most basic DXP, but they all have found the Holy Grail of OQRS as a major revenue stream, especially for the 1 or 2 man teams to a Top 50 site.  Plus, if they have donations of cash or equipment from vendors, that's no out of pocket expense, even if they have to return the equipment to the vendors.

If you remember back when Bouvet was going, I matched the club's donation as I figured that was a once in a lifetime possibility for me.  I NEVER HEARD THEM at all.  Did I feel jilted, NOT ONE BIT, but disappointed for sure.  However, that was a very different DXP, in my view, and they had major obstacles they could not overcome once on site.

So, the dilemma remains.   Do we, as an organization, support this DXP or not?  So having said all of this, I support the suggested donation, but only if their DXCC is approved.
