After repairing and moving the pennant into a better location away from metal structures and antennas, aka “the front yard”, I set up for another night of monitoring. I chose to point the pennant toward the northeast. Again, KB5WBH was my reference station. The results were consistent with what I have seen before. Mike’s (KB5WBH) station was consistently better in every direction except off the front of the pennant. You can see the results in the pictures
A little bonus yesterday was seeing Charles, KF5TL, on yesterday around 7pmish local. For the short time he was on, his receive seemed to be a bit better than the pennant into the NE, USA. I don’t know what his antenna is or how the noise is at his location but he is dong well. He was able to get flagged all over Europe on transmit, so is doing amazing with the second part of a QSO also.
For those that only radio to see the “wrecks”, this is for you. The carnage from yesterday’s mistake was a broken binocular core, a shorted secondary winding, and a very exploded terminating resistor, with a blackened insulator. II was disappointed that I was not outside to see it. In my mind, I can hear the resistor as it popped, see the transformer as it began to glow, feel the heat as I touch the toroid, smell the odor of charred components. It would have been a virtual symphony for your 4 senses, as I suspect none of us have had the urge to taste charred parts.
Have a great day, and good DXing
