[ADXA] ZF5T 3 bands in 3 minutes - go get ‘em

Hi Dennis,
Last night I was playing with the SDR settings a lot, had a good copy on ZF5T most of the time. I was doing so pretty weird stuff to reduce the noise level.

I heard K3LR, K5UR and K5CM. Those folks have real 160m antennas. I haven't had a good 160m antenna since I left Fort Smith! Not sure the back can handle the radials these days?

Jay and Nick,

160 is tough, as others will attest. I think I have 29 on that band after 62 years on the air. I’m slowly trying to work up to semi-mediocrity. I could copy ZF5T even though static from the storms was fierce. The pennant antenna quieted the noise somewhat.

I was running about 400 watts to a sorry inverted-L and it took quite a few calls. I heard VY work them and VR was in there calling. The inv-L runs up about 50 feet over a tree and the far end is probably about 30 feet up. Not really an L, with the sloping leg. It also has only one radial. I’m going to do better next winter!

Hi Nick,
I got the unclean sweep as well, LOL. I tried to get them on 160 by loading into a window screen. Not really, but not that far from the truth! I got a few " ?'s " a few times and I did my best to vary the speed, change the frequency just a tad for a little different tone, none of the tricks worked. Then with all the RF in the shack from my lash up, it reset the computer with a few other crashes. Just now working through those.

It was fun getting them on 80m through 20m the first night. Then early Saturday morning got them on 15m and they asked me to move up to 28.066. I did and they were strong there. So, it didn't take long to get them on the normal bands. I was a bit shocked to hear Howdy on 20m or I thought I copied that, but there was QRM so I just stuck the routine exchange.

Great fun, but wish I could have got them on 160m! My fault with not real 160m antenna here.

I made the unclean sweep of 80 - 10. My TV modem objects to 160 meter operations.

Good deal, Steve! I’m hoping for less thunder tonight to finish 40, 80, and 160. That may take more than 3 minutes, though!

Tough getting them on 160m last night with my poor antenna ... but got a QSB peak and QRN dip. So today finished off all 6 bands with a 10m QSO this morning. The "pressure" is off, hihi.

It was thundery all yesterday evening so I didn’t get on. I got the ZF5T crew on 20, 15, and 10 in 3 minutes this morning. Now I hear thunder again - dang!
