HI Lanny and thanks again for your service to the hobby!

I sort of do some of that here, but not for pay, hi. Yes, it is stressful at times, but afterwards what a great feeling when you helped someone that needed it. I love helping folks anyway I can! Setting up ham radio software, like Logging, WSJT-X, JTAlert, and uploading logs for guys, etc. Moral support for helping with their antennas and helping set up their gear. One of my buddies is a blind ham and I have always helped him upload his contests logs! He does really great work for a blind ham!

Just today spent an hour or so checking DXCC cards for a local BVRC club member. Scanned it and the application is already up at the ARRL ready for them to process it. Making and meeting a lot of cool friends along the way!

One can spend hours doing computer work remotely. I do a lot of Elmering or try to at the same time. I keep thinking back to the old novice days, back in the early 70s, when we didn't know what a computer was or have one in the shack! More on the air time or maybe I am remembering that wrong?

I marvel at the current times, but wish for the old days, hi. 🙂

In the long run, I think this is very important to the new hams coming into the hobby! If it requires driving over to their house or logging in remotely on their computer seems to make a difference. I keep seeing our local club grow, which is a great thing. Everyone here seems to do their small part in growing the hobby and the local club. Too many to list, but I love to see folks helping at every turn! K5DB will be sure that NWA hams come down in force at the next ADXA meeting. Don't know how many came with him that really were not interested in DX, but later became hard core DXers!

Oh, what the heck here are a few great Elmers that come to mind in our area! K5DB, W5XNA, W5DM, K5XH, KM5G, K5GO, WC5V and many others I am sure I left out a few! Very sorry if I missed you that help out here locally! Here in NWA the above are helping all they can to move folks into DXing, CW, HF operation, and yes even the Darkside of digital, hi. Even areas in VHF, if that is your thing!

BTW, speaking of Elmering and helping with new hams. Our own Joel W5ZN and Kim came up yesterday to speak at our BVRC meeting. This was Joel's second time up to bat at BVRC. Having great programs helps grow local clubs and getting folks together. There is a huge spin off from this that helps other clubs like the ARRL, ADXA, etc. Joel hung around to answer any questions after the meeting. I want to publicly thank Joel and Kim for coming up and speaking at BVRC! That is a pretty long drive for them to make. It was a great turn out and great evening for all that got to see Joel's forum! We are so lucky to have both Joel and Kim in our ranks!

Funny, I just started out this email for a short reply to Lanny and thanking him for being an Elmer! Then ended up writing a book. The bottom line is, get in there and help out when you can. It really doesn't matter how small. Even if it is just a fellow ham friend, you are making a difference!

Thanks Jay. This is keyboard-to-keyboard and I'm usually in two at a time; sometimes three! Research can make it stressful at times!

This is why I commit to at least an hour every afternoon. $10/hr. (plus VIP purchase perks) helps by the end of the month, but this is the real satisfaction: helping with newbies!

"This was the best chat help I have ever gotten. Lanny K1LEC helped me to decide to buy a radio and all the accessories and I will probably get another set for my wife. I am not only impressed with him but also impressed that GigaParts would support the hobby and customers with such knowledgeable and helpful radio buffs. I am impressed!"
