Exactly right Jon! I don't know how many times in the last couple of years, I have worked some new folks as their first contact. Several of them have been listening for two years without making a single contact! A few of them I knew they were listening as they bumped the paddle! I kept going slower until they answered me, LOL. Even then it was like pulling teeth, like asking for all their information, one thing at a time. They are learning. In the old days we had Elmers and books to guide us. The YouTube content creators are for the most part the blind leading the blind. Still if they keep going, they will get there! I am super glad to see anyone new on the air with CW!!
That why organizations like LICW are pushing Guys and Gals to do POTA and SOTA contacts even before they are ready to get on the air.
Remember no one dies, no one going to remember any mistakes, and nearly everyone would rather have you on CW, that not!
Don't slow down!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! It's been a process, and it's not where I'd like to be on my recognition, but from what I'm understanding and thinking, if I waited until my send and receive is perfect, I'll would never have gotten on the air.
I'm currently 4/50 on WAS and 2/100 to dxcc on LOTW. Cue our fearless leader's favorite saying!!!

Congratulations, Jon! Even those of us who have been doing CW for a long time remember the excitement and trepidation of those first contacts! It’s kind of a big deal.

Just thought I'd let everyone know, after about 7 months give or take of study, last night I made my first and second cw contact. I was so excited I emailed the station for qsl confirmation because things were happening fast for me with the keyer and speaker. Got a return email confirmation KH6LC is in the log book, 8/25/25 02:47utc 14.028, 20wpm 50W out to my home made vertical antenna!
