I'm still bummed about missing 3DA0DL on 10 meters. They just weren't on that band when I was paying attention. I also needed VK9CV on 10.
Today was a pretty good DX day - worked S9Z on 30, 20, 15, and 12M. Of the high bands, I need them on 17 and 10M. That "should" be easy. These guys seem to have the Super Fox thing figured out. They will work some CW, I'm sure, but for now, I'll take it anyway I can get it.
I also worked E51SGC on 15 and 10 CW. I've seen their antennas - pretty simple, but they were booming in. Also, I think the op was actually sending with a paddle. It just didn't sound like computer-generated exchanges. I always enjoy working this team on CW. OK, I'll admit to working them on 30M FT8, too.
Cocos Island is tough - I've missed out several times due to just not being able to copy. I had VK9CV on 17CW, as well as 15 and 12 digital. I have not caught them on 40 and I was also concerned about missing them on 10.
Today, I heard them on 10 CW, 28.009. They were weak, but I called. Others were calling, too, with no success. I was running 400 watts to the C-3 but didn't even get a ? out of him. The only ones getting through were 6's and 7's. I turned the beam all around, but the short path was best. I took a break and went to the living room. I turned the volume up enough to keep an ear on things, and when I began to sense him getting louder, I tried again. People tuned up on top of him, there was a little DQRM, and he kept fading in and out. There were some good momentary peaks, though, and I kept plugging. Finally...he came back and I got it in the log.
Fingers crossed for VK9CV and E51SGC early tomorrow AM on 80 and 40.
Sometimes the tough ones are the best....

Dennis/RZ
