We've gotta get some young folks doing RUFZ and Make America Great for CW
Again.
If you slice and dice the RUFZ toplist enough ways, I'm finally in there at
#123 among senior males under 160# weight and 5"-7" height. My peak back
then was 289 CPM or 57.8 WPM. This must have been 20 years ago. I tried
RUFZ again a couple years ago and peaked out at 243 CPM or 48.6 WPM. So
I've lost 10 WPM.

I can't imagine those incredible speeds. I'd like to witness it sometime.
(Well, I guess I should go to YouTube then,eh?)
For me, when the speed goes much above 60 WPM, I not only can't pick out
any words, I can't even say for sure that what I'm hearing is Morse.
I won a copying contest at the LR hamfest at about 50 WPM. But I didn't
have to compete against Dennis because he was helping put the thing on.
A dit at 220 WPM lasts 5.5 ms. The period of an 800 Hz tone is 1.25 ms. So
a dit would last about 4.4 complete sine waves. How can anyone detect that?
My comfortable QSO speed is about 23 WPM. For contests, about 26 WPM
although that's just a sending limitation. (I still like to use my paddle.)
It's fun talking CW.
73 & dit dit,
Nick, WA5BDU
