Jon,
You exhibit the traits of a TRUE DX’er my friend!!
Many of the old dogs, even though now retired, can relate similar stories when we were working hard jobs and long hours and had to sacrifice sleep or other things to “GET IN THERE AND WORK ‘EM!” Sadly that commitment is on display very little these days. DX’ers are getting soft and have turned in to spoon fed FedEX operators…….”I want it now, or overnight at the latest!”. We used to call those types “weenies”….well, I guess we still do BUT YOU AIN’T ONE!
Your numbers will add up quickly with a work ethic and operating drive like that. I wish more of the members in our local club had your enthusiasm to get on HF and take their amateur radio experience to the next level. You are on the right track.
Keep it up, OM. You’re a good friend, DX’er/ADXA member, and a REAL HAM!

Not sure if this fits here, but here goes...I am a propane man working through a snow and ice apocalypse that has overtaken everyone. We are running 30hrs/day (haha) and have been for 3 weeks. I thought I had missed out on Clipperton Island because when I got home from 15+ hrs/day for the third straight week, it was time for bed. Got home a little early tonight, snagged Clipperton on 40m FT8...good enough for me to have them in the log in some instance rather than none.
I enjoy everyone's update and progress throughout the day, it makes it tough to see all the fun and to be at work (away from the radio), but I'll get there one day!

That’s definitely the true DX spirit! Getting it done no matter what. Hy-gain is among several who have done some dodgy things and I’m glad you got it figured out. Changes in Element taper, boom corrections, different element mounting schemes, etc, have cost DX’ers a lot of db. I bought YO (yagi optimizer) many years ago and it has saved me several times.

So it’s the last day, I’ve been sick all week, weather bad, Hexbeam spreader broke, and need Clipperton on 12 meters. Felt ok this morning, not raining, but muddy up here at the swamp on top of a hill.
Run computer programs all day yesterday to figure why my 3 element hygain beam that’s on the junk pile wouldn’t work. Found out that it’s because hygain dimensions are wrong for the tubing size they give you these days. Not the same size as in the directions or what Telex used when they were the manufacturer. Cheaper to build, I guess.
Anyway, spent the morning cleaning it up, adjusting elements, etc. Finished at around 2:30, heard they were still on 12. Put on my climbing gear, found some old coax, pulled it up about 15 feet, and strapped it to the side of the tower. Came back inside, connected it up, and worked them on the first call. Anticlimactic.
