It may be time for me to update my "noise" presentation for ADXA. I've gained some additional experience here at my station since I published that information, but it is still very relevant!

As Nick, BDU, has noted an RX dedicated antenna will help but noise abatement is a never ending battle. I seem to have new sources appear each year when I fire up the low band RX systems here.

Regardless, a lot of the practices I have documented will help improve your situation. Even through I seem to have new noise sources appear each year I have never had a return of any of the old ones I eliminated!!!

Subject: [ADXA] Getting my tail kicked by S21DX

The only band I’ve heard them on was 30 meters, but no QSO. I decided to throw up some wire dedicated to 30 meters, then they didn’t show there, but we’re on 40 and 80 and I couldn’t get a decode ft8. I only have one word to say about this, “AIGHHHHH”.

After giving S21DX a reprieve for the day, I decided to work on a gift for the grandkids which are ages 2 and 3. I cut up a couple of kids bicycles and have been putting them back together for a tandem version. I was quite proud of myself and texted my wife a picture when I got started on it. I was surprised she didn’t text back bragging on me and my progress. When I went inside, I point blank asked her what she thought about the bicycle. She said she didn’t know it was a bicycle, and just thought it was another antenna I was working on.

I am beginning to see at least a couple problems with my Ham Radio career.
1. My antennas, apparently, look like kids bicycles…or my bicycles look like antennas???
2. Weak signal modes obviously are referring to my transmit ability

At the present I have read ZN’s article on noise mitigation, and am presently looking into several things mentioned in his article, that possibly may be contributing to my noise issue.

Everyone have a great Holiday Season! If anyone knows the gain specs on a kids bicycle, I would be interested in that information.
