That certificate was from when W1AW/5 participated in the IARU contest in
2005 as an HQ station. I believe station locations were K5GO (all bands
CW), K5EJ, K5UZ, and others. We had 10M SSB from K5BAT and did some
filling in late at night on 40 SSB. 10m was not very good and little DX
was workable in July. We hoped for a monster Sporadic E opening but it
never happened. We worked a lot on backscatter and tropo scatter. Thank
goodness for QRO. It was brute force or nothing.

40 meter SSB was OK but there weren’t enough stations to work.

We did the Centennial thing for W1AW/5 at K5BAT in 2014. I think we
worked over 7000 Q’s for the Centennial. I remember tremendous pileups on
17M SSB and 30M CW was a zoo. Same for 30M RTTY. Fun times!

Dennis/RZ
