W5ZN will again be active in the CQWW CW DX Contest November 26-27. We
have operated in a number of categories over the years. Last year was a
single band 160 entry by me with Dave Patton, NN1N (now KW9A) operating
here at one of the other op positions with a single band 40 meter entry
with his callsign.
This year W5ZN will enter in the Multi-Single category. Dave, KW9A
(x-NN1N) and Mark Obermann, AG9A, will be here with me as operators. I
am looking for one, maybe two extra ops who could work a shift or two
during the day on Saturday or Sunday. Now, BEFORE you start jumping up
and down there are some strict rules. This is NOT an open house for
guests or visitation. Please do not take this a being rude or belittling
but this is a serious contest effort so here they are:
1. You must have past experience in a CW contest (understand the concept
of run -vs- S&P).
2. You must be proficient in CW at 25 to 30 WPM
3. You must be proficient using N1MM logging software (easy to learn if
you've used others)
4. There are no overnight sleeping accommodations here but several
hotels 5 miles away in Searcy
For those who were here in 2019 at our open house the station is
configured differently now, specifically the antenna layout. There is a
stack of three JK MidTri's for 20/15/10 on one tower, the lower two on
ring rotors - so all are rotatable. They feed a VA6AM high power
triplexer so a station could be running on 20, 15, and 10 all at the
same time. A separate JK MidTri is on a separate tower 210 feet to the
south on a ring rotor and available for an operating position not
associated with the stack/triplexer arrangement.
Two 40 meter beams are available. The Moxon at 120' and a 40-2CD at 60
ft on a ring rotor. Then of course the 80 meter 4 square and 160 meter
parasitic array are the same.
If interested and meet the above requirements please contact me OFF THE
REFLECTOR and we'll chat.
Again, there will be no visitor or guest access during the contest
period. The gates will be closed. For those who have asked we do plan
another open house sometime in 2023.
