It’s amazing to me that ops get a license, invest in thousands and thousands of dollars in gear and then bitch about a card they need that is going to cost a few dollars.

Jay, I’m not talking about you. I see some stuff on the ARRL reflectors from significant DXers and I wonder how they put their pants on in the morning.

You’re either in the game or you’re not.

Steve, QQ

PS, 17 was wide open to Asia this morning. I’m using a CC rotatable dipole and could work anything I could print on FT8. Highly recommend this antenna if you can’t put multiple elements up.

Then I get the card in many months later. Which I never or rarely used anymore. They are not listed as using LOTW on qrz.com or on Clublog. But many times I will get the confirmation from LOTW even though they're not listed as such.
>
> However I have seen a feature in Clublog OQRS that shows an option of LOTW along with direct QSL card. I know the ARRL is looking into this. Issues like this are never as simple as it seems. I hope this doesn't cause cause a few rare DX stations to quit using LOTW and insist on sending out qsl cards only. Especially with Postal Service being so iffy these days around the world. I haven't noticed the minimum charge with OQRS to be anymore or less with both options, but that may be the case with some contacts?
>
> There is pressure for everyone to jump on LOTW bandwagon these days. Both operators here will not even bother to call anyone that is not on LOTW unless it's an all-time new one. With current logging programs this is easily flagged if one is a user or not of LOTW. Those ATNOs we have seen many join LOTW at a later date. So those contacts in the end are not wasted. In the meantime we will do what they request in getting the confirmation. When I first got on LOTW only one-third of my contacts were confirmed. That ratio has now increased to 50%.

> In my humble opinion much cheaper to pay OQRS no matter which option you end up getting. If I were to Total it up, QSL card cost over the years, I probably have spent enough to buy an Icom 7851! Putting the pencil to the paper QSLing Direct with airmail envelopes, return airmail envelopes, plus adding your qsl card, then the required return postage USD's which now amounts to $3 to $5 inside that mess and finally the airmail postage to get it out of our country. Unless a station is charging more than seven bucks I will be glad to continue using OQRS QSL system. Lately the cost seem to be ranging from $3 to $5 using Clublogs OQRS. That is a bargain! That save's a ton of time, effort and money.
>
> From my experience as being a QSL manager even with guys sending you two to three bucks you really don't have any extra dollars at the end of the day. By the time you buy postage and supplies it's pretty much a dead even deal. However that's here in the US and not in a foreign country. So in those cases they could be gaining a few bucks here and there? There is always been those kind of folks I guess. However I don't think anyone is getting super rich from this.
>
> I have noticed some in the Far East and Asia, don't have internet available to their homes. Again we in the U.S. always think that everyone else is just like us. They will go to an internet cafe which may be considerable cost to them. Travel expenses to nearby cities and even buying a thumb drive or smart media card to use. So when folks say LOTW cost nothing for DX stations to upload again these issues are not as simple as one would think. Just something to consider as I'm not an expert in this area.

> For the most part I am glad my mailing qsl cards are behind for the most part. I will only jump through hoops to get a confirmation that involves a card card if it's an all-time new one. I absolutely adore and appreciate the LOTW system. Again it is also a bargain when you compare QSLing for confirmations in the past. Rory as you know those last two cards you check for me cost me more than a few bucks money-wise, hihi. However I will continue to go after the cards when needed.

> If it were me, I would just work the 9N7AA to where you get almost an instant upload confirmation. I have him now on digital and CW modes. From 30 m to 12 m. He has been a Dandy operator, even though he has a super high noise floor. No love offering needed! :-) Although I would have been glad to give him one.
