[ADXA] 6m opening or lack thereof

Hi Scott,

I usually have DXMaps up looking at who is making the contacts and the MUF-Sp-E tab on my next tab. I switch back-n-forth. I didn’t see our QSO reported, but I noticed a complete lack of MUF squares/clouds or whatever you call them in that direction. Didn’t see any over or near Japan either.

What was weird is the SFI is climbing at the time, but the K index was/is all over the place. However I think the SFI needs to be around 180 to support real F layer on 6m?

My log does record those numbers and they are:

SFI 150

A 7

K 3

It would be interesting to know if DXMaps showed your contact with JA AFTER you worked him :-).

You were the sporadic E prop to that part of the world at that time!

You should know the answer to this one Jay! That is why we all call it "The Magic Band"!

Nice contact Jay :-)

So I was working N7PHY in DN76 and right after that QSO I had JL8GFB call me. We completed the QSO! The band was pretty much dead seeing only N7PHY and looking on DXMaps under the MUF Sp—E tab there just isn’t a lot of anything going on right now much less towards the NW and JA! So how in the world did the JA’s signal get here?

I guess that why they call it the Magic Band! 73 de w5jay/jay..
