Subject: [ADXA] VP8ADR Falkland Islands

Had a QSO with Bob Short (VP8ADR) back in Oct. With contacts I had from Bob McLeod (VP8LP), I just needed VP8 on 15m for four bands.

Spent some time this afternoon on 15m FT8 and saw VP8ADR working but with a weaker signal and QSB. I saw him coming back to an NM0 call--and then more powerful stations (K5 and VE2) starting calling over the top of VP8. I said to myself, "Well, there go your chances NM0." But then six minutes later, after disappearing and when the QRM stops, VP8ADR pops back up and completes the call with NM0! So I call him again. He comes back to me--and the same thing happens. VE2 starts calling on the top of VP8ADR. But two minutes later he completes the call with me! LOL

Bob Short know how to work a call!!! Grateful to him.

VP8LP (Bob Mcleod) will also be working as VP8LP/A (special event station) this weekend. Watch for him too.

Good ops both! And a good lesson on how to work hard-to-get stations. Always work split in a pile up and don't call, call, call! Have confidence in your gear and rely on your experience with propagation. His signal report to me was 8db stronger than mine to him. So he was hearing me fine when the QRM stopped.

73,

Scott/W5AAJ
