Steve,
I was saddened as well by the news from Bernie concerning Roger, G3SXW's, passing. He was a FOC member and great DX Contesting organizer. I'm not a hard core contester. However, as Joel, W5ZN, has pointed out numerous times, you can find lots of new ones in the DX contests like CQ WW and ARRL International DX Test. For several years I was 100W and wires and Roger, G3SXW, and the Voodoo Contest Group, gave me a big number of new ones during their trips to Africa. They had great signals on most bands and could dig out the "weak ones". Here's a link to the Voodoo's... https://www.voodoocontestgroup.com/ I never met Roger but I had the pleasure of meeting his sidekick, Nigel, G3TXF, at the Visalia IDXC. I think Rick, AI5P, introduced us. Nigel has also activated a number of rare spots over the years.

"Contesting in Africa", by Roger Wester, G3SXW, tells the story of the Voodoo's Multi-Multi efforts from Africa from 1994-2003. It's a great read.

73,
Pat, W5VY

Bernie reports Roger is a silent key. He was one of the first DXers I became aware of when I got on the air. My first mode of contact was CW and Roger was an incredible operator. He operated from many countries. I'm sad today.

Steve, N4JQQ
