Several ADXA folks are active in the Central States VHF Society. K5YY,
K5UR and some who are now SK have been long, long time members dating
waaaay back.
CSVHFS has held an annual conference each year during the last weekend
in July that began in 1965 as an informal gathering. Since that time it
has moved around to various locations in the central USA, even being
held in Winnipeg, Canada one year. The 2020 conference was originally
scheduled to be held in La Crosse, WI but was cancelled due to Covid. It
was rescheduled for 2021 but cancelled yet again. It has now been
rescheduled a second time for July 21-24, 2022 in La Crosse.
The conference has been held in Arkansas only once, in 1997 in Hot
Springs. I was the conference host and President that year. Over the
past six years I have been approached by members of the CSVHFS Board
about hosting another CSVHFS conference in Arkansas. After six years of
inquiries and being caught in a weak moment, I finally agreed!
So mark your calendars for July 27-29, 2023 (that's 2023, not next year)
for the CSVHFS Conference in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The venue
should be very familiar to ADXA folks. It is the Wyndham Riverfront
Hotel where we have held several ADXA conferences. N2CEI Steve and K4SME
Sandra were here over the July 23-25 weekend this year and we sat down
with the hotel sales staff to finalize the details and contract.
For those of you not familiar with the CSVHFS Conference, it is a 2 day
event with antenna range and preamp noise figure measurements on Friday
morning, continuing with technical presentations Friday afternoon and
all day Saturday, culminating with a banquet Saturday evening. A nice
bound copy of the conference proceedings is published for CSVHFS each
year by ARRL.
For ADXA folks who have become interested and active in 6 meter DX'ing
here's your chance to learn a little more about 50 MHz either from a
presentation or from rubbing elbows with some of the top 6 meter ops in
the USA.
Obviously there will be more details forthcoming as we move through
2022.
