This spring I ended the 160M season with 101 Worked and 96 confirmed. I
finally managed to round up the cards for 100. Same sort of thing happened
on 6M. I had started the year with 76 confirmed and was on at the right time
to catch a couple of really nice openings to EU. I got to 101 worked and
finally got LOTW and QSLs to make the DXCC threshold. . Djuro, 4O6AH, sent a
reply QSL twice but I never received it. I lucked out and caught 4O3A one
morning and got LOTW in hours. FS/W8HC was the one that got me to 100. I
made my first 6M QSO in January 2012. I worked a couple of XEs on CW and
thought that was very cool. One afternoon I saw Bob, ZL1RS, spotted and
just for grins tuned to his CW freq. I was amazed when I heard him and
shocked when he came back to me. I was running a IC7000, 100W to a 3L M2
yagi at about 16ft. I was hooked on 6M from that point on. I started the
winter with about 35 confirmed on 160. All CW/SSB. Most of the "new"
entities were FT8.a few CW Qs into EU on good nights. Thanks to Earl,
N5ZM, for taking time out of his busy schedule to check my cards. It was
great getting to talk to someone about DX in person! Earl's station and
antenna farm are looking/performing great.
So, by the skin of my teeth I now have DXCC on 10 bands. It took me about
40 years to make Mixed DXCC. Never thought 5B DXCC was possible. Also,
thanks to the really sweet 2M Sporadic E opening on the Sunday of Field Day,
I worked three new states (NY, CT and DE), two new Canadian Provinces and 18
new grids on 2M FT8/SSB over about a three hour opening. I got enough LOTW
hits to apply for VUCC on 2M. I have enough cards to get to about 135 now.
It's all fun!
Congrats to Rory, K5CKS, on reaching the 425 level on 6M VUCC. I'm hoping
that K5UR guy is legitimate ...he signed my two new DXCC certificates also!
73 es DX,
Pat, W5VY
