Yep, Bill, and you might note his CW count on our standings are THREE on CW .. HI He loved calling on SSB so very much. I helped encourage him to move to Hot Springs in the mid 1970s when ML Young (ADXA member) liked Lenny’s big ideas about 4 square vertical systems on 80 and 40m and having strong signals. ML asked me to talk to him.

He and his wife were patients of mine when I practice there until 1976. Loved going by his home “in the woods” every couple of weeks. The wife made me coffee, and Lenny and I chatted quite a while in his radio room. HI HI To get to the feed points of his verticals in the woods, you had to walk on one of 3-4 long, narrow pathways. I stepped on a BIG snake one day and never saw his vertical ‘details’ again! 😊 I got bitten by a rattlesnake on my hand when I was a 7 year old kid in Clarendon, AR.. I stomp large, long worms, just in case!!

The amazing thing about Lennie is he professed to hate CW but when I visited his shack he had a second class radio telegraph license hanging on the wall!

Just got a short email from Lenny Mendel, K5OVC, who turns 93 years old today. Lenny has been a long time Honorary Life Member of ADXA.. He says he feels good and continues to drive his car!!! Does not DX much at all, no interest. His MD son has retired from medical practice. Lenny was SO proud of his son’s medical career.
Lenny was not much of a CW guy at all, as you can see on our member ‘Ladder’. HI 😊
