I need ‘em on RTTY digital and on 24mc and 80m. With limited band QSOs with just two stations in operation, I suspect no chance on 24mc, since they will concentrate on 14 and 18mc mostly due to the best propagation for them. On digital, FT8 will be only mode they operate I suspect, so I am knocked out of that mode. Most Cocos and Christmas Island DXped trips are usually VK6 and some northern VK4 guys.. Long way for to go and expensive for VK1-3 guys and airline connections a bit difficult. Very few places to stay and usually small, very expensive cottages, sometimes a long distance away from each other on Cocos Island.
VK3GK, Lee, is a guru on getting to both the Pacific and Indian Ocean VK DXped efforts but don’t think he is on this VK9C trip. I have been with him on Lord Howe and Norfolk, good operator and fun to be with.
80m will be impossible for me with my low 35 foot dipole and low angle of radiation impossible for me. Might try the short multiband vertical I have with a lower radiation pattern. Guess I will only listen and hope to catch a peak on 24mc, hoping they will be on 28/24 or 24/21 with their 2 stations. Don’t understand why with 10 ops they can’t be at least on 3-4 bands at a given time but only took 2 rigs... They are giving up a lot of QSOs and OQRS $ donations for sure. You gotta understand, the VK1-4 guys do things differently than most VK5-6 group trips, somewhat based on remoteness of the western VK DXpedition guys and shipping stuff and travel issues.
Hey, it’s their trip and $$ so we just “chase ‘em and hope”.. 😊
San YY Good luck, Steve.

Well, I've been waiting for this one. Somehow only have on 20, phone
and CW. I thought, for some reason, this was going to be a serious op.
Daily DX says today "holiday style" with modest antennas and two
stations. Disappointing. There was very little advance information
available regarding this expedition but due to number of ops, ten, I
thought it might be a big lift. Can only hope.
Begins 3/16.
Steve, QQ
