Nice comment Trent!
Yes, it is a hobby and each of us spends our own free time, spends our own money on whatever equipment/antennas we each want etc, and each has the right to have fun in whatever aspect of ham radio satisfies us and keeps each one of us in the hobby. A hobby is not a job with specifics that have to be followed and directed by a “boss” at work. 😊
Having said that, I feel I do not have the desire to fight software/hardware issues and Windows 10 updates that are necessary but does confront many FT8 – FT4 followers.. I think sub-audible modes are still in the early stages of DXing fun, and another 3-4 years will stabilize in most areas of concern and frustration. I personally am satisfied with the modes I have used for many decades and do not want to ‘start over’ on chasing new awards and keeping detailed records or mandating LoTW confirmations to avoid a lot of QSLing expenses. TU again for your comments Trent. I miss my old Memphis days, having gone to East High on Poplar for a few years, knowing Elvis when he lived on Audubon Drive, selling cokes at Crump Stadium to “old” college students, dancing on the Wink Martindale Saturday Morning Dance Party show, remembering my bicycle rides to “east” Memphis which was near my Poplar/Highland apartment at the time, being a golf caddie at the Galloway Golf Course, etc. My close family friends owned Germantown Lumber Company, Jeep and Maida Pearson. Both are now deceased; I was with them many times at their huge 12,000 square foot home. Maida was Republican Party leader in Shelby County for years and passed at age 92 about 3 years ago. Then there’s Sonny Flinn, a doctor friend who went to school with me at East and again at Georgia Tech. He owns so many radio/TV stations all over the USA, including WHBQ and WMCT etc. I go to Memphis every 3-4 years for a nostalgic visit and going to all my “old places” and roaming around and eating with Sonny somewhere each visit, usually out on east Poplar near the east bypass near Germantown. Will give you a call when I am there next time.. Maybe you can teach me FT8 in a few minutes?? 😊

Jay, these are great points.  As you know, I am deep into technology in the banking sector, and certainly try to keep up with technology around the ham shack.
The beautiful thing about our hobby is that there's something for everyone!  I would never say "you shouldn't do thus" because I want everyone to have fun!

I so appreciate these conversations, and the civility that runs through them.

Trent
