[ADXA] Aland Island addressing

*** In general, when there is an island or distant possession of a known country, and if there are no direct scheduled flights or scheduled deliveries ( like every 2 weeks or every month perhaps by a boat ) then mail is gathered in a special postal facility in the “mother country” and sent to the possession on a reasonable schedule when enough parcels and letters are present to financially support the delivery.

Don’t forget, us paying $$ on our end of things here in the USA does not always get a Universal Postal system “partial payment” to the country who has to delivery as part of a Postal agreement between countries. The ‘mother country’ can lose money in making deliveries of mail. One time I had a list of country names and their agreement and partial payment sharing but that was a few years ago. Sorry.

Never hurts to put the Main country below or to the right of the addressee by putting down “Via Switzerland or Netherlands or Finland” etc.. Just a crazy unknown name like Andaman or Aland or Glorioso might just be returned rather than search who the mother land is and then forward there.
That’s why I do like Club Log and QSL managers. Avoids payments both ways in form of USDs and/or IRCs. We no longer sell IRCs in NA but do accept them for a return airmail postage stamp.
Years ago, it was all about us paying from USA, enclose an SAE and IRC or $$ OR a true stamp from that country, usually bought on a ham radio site that sold new foreign, uncancelled, valid stamps. I am sure that guy made very little profit doing that, maybe a dime or two above his cost. But you had to pay HIM extra for returning that new stamp to you before you could then send to the DX station or his manager. A lot more complicated than Club Log or LoTW or the ARRL DX buro…
73 . Now for a nap. Gosh it is HOT HOT here, no outside mowing etc for me today.

If US postal service returned it, it needed Finland.  I’ve had this happen before.  You put Diego Garcia without UK and the machine draws a blank.

Hi yall

I got a return on a card I sent to Aland Islands : “return to sender      not deliverable as addressed    unable to forward”.  I used QRZ address which ends with Aland Islands.  Do I need to add Finland or via Finland?  Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance
