I've been seeing VU stations popup on FT8 15m early morning about 9am or so,
sometimes as many as four with some decent signals, ranging from -10
(perhaps workable) to -24 (unworkable) with my wire that time of morning.
This morning just one station (-19 to -24 so not a chance). Also I've been
chasing PU0FDN. He is strong in the afternoon and early evening. He had a
pipeline into Japan the other day and I could not break through even though
he had a signal of +10 to +14db. I saw him work one US station and one
Canada station. I've not had good opportunity to work SA on 15m in a number
of days. So don't know what the propagation limitation is for that area, but
the last SA stations I've worked were on 7/15 and 7/16 (CX on 5W 10m)
On the other hand, Europe on 10m has been good and I picked 4 stations
yesterday afternoon. Signals were not strong and QSB was quite fast. Most of
the stations I called I didn't get a response, so I started calling CQ and
letting them find me.
Otherwise, I picked up Togo (5V on 20m)--if I actually made it into his
log--and MD0 (10m). A few Japan stations and some Caribbean stations: J69
(10m 5W), C6 on various bands and modes (1 CW QSO).
One QSL away from Triple Play. Expect it within the next two weeks, or maybe
sooner from an alternate contact. Submitted and issued AJD award from JARL
(waiting to receive it), and tallying up where I stand for WAJA prefectures
award (Over half way there. Filling out cards to send to bureau). Received
DXCC on 15m.
It's been a good summer for me between playing lumberjack, groundskeeper,
pet doctor (one of the dogs got bit by something and has a swollen leg), and
ham--always the ham, lol.
73 es good DX,
Scott/W5AAJ
